The Lois is the first place he's had true friends, even if who they are generally senior to him, though his ambitious plan of study means his rating is rising rapidly may be surprising. Or helping a friend pass a test that has been eluding him for a long time. Aboard the William Tinker the senior officers are derelict and abusive, the crew demoralized and undisciplined, and change unwelcomed and dangerous. His novels do not generally feature the huge space battles or blue eyed monsters. Ishmael Wang protects the female crew from their abusers, but he, himself, still falls into the typical thought and speech patterns that are part and parcel of the problem.

I seldom reread books but the Solar Clipper series by the brilliant Nathan Lowell is simply inspiring. I now have another favorite author to follow. Learn more about the officers and crew of the Lois McKendrick as they struggle to keep their ship and discover how Ishmael finds out how wrong he's been about what it means to be a spacer in this latest Trader's Tale. His first assignment as a third officer is aboard the William Tinker , commanded by Captain Rossett. Ishmael and the rest of the crew must scramble to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it in order to keep the ship alive. I didnt like him verse Nathans voice, but i was suffering so badly from solor clipper ship lauger withdawls i downed my pint with Pip and was happy as hell. Tremendous depth in character development.

And since, as some others here have pointed out, it is a rather large part of the book, that kind of ruins it for me. He soon learns how to get along, and how to advance. While I thoroughly enjoyed all six books in the Traders Tales, Double Share is one of my favorites. As of today, author Lowell lives happily in the eastern plains of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, along with his wife, a couple of daughters, and 3 feline companions. My goal this year is to repeat my four books in a single year achievement.

He learns that being captain doesn't make you infallible and that life in the captain's cabin is filled with new kinds of challenges as he tries to keep the ship moving, the crew out of trouble, and turn a profit to earn his Captain's Share. Like making better coffee for his shipmates. The minutiae regarding day to day life, duties and trading theory are surprisingly engrossing. He learns that being captain doesn't make you infallible and that life in the captain's cabin is filled with new kinds of challenges as he tries to keep the ship moving, the crew out of trouble, and turn a profit to earn his Captain's Share. No kidding, it's, just, great!!!! An enjoyable follow on and nice way of setting up the next book.

Nobody can get into monsieur Henri's shop without such an invitation, but it's not at all clear why Ish, of all people, got one. Other reviewers have written that 'nothing happens' in Quarter Share. It took place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018. Can Ishmael use what he learned aboard the Lois McKendrick to help the crew find the ship's heart? Nathan narrates the books himself and the story is amazing. In the series, he takes some of the most seemingly impossible characters and helps them rise above themselves and see their own self-worth.

What the next series will be called? Ishmael's eye and Pip's monetary instincts lead to interesting new finds and new methods of adding value to an investment. But trying this kind of star trader might be an eye opener to many, with a bit more structure than we are used to having. There is also friendship, creativity, innovation, opportunity and more to learn. Also, my audience on the blog will include some young people. I plan to continue the relationship by purchasing the next book in the series, Half Share. As he assumes command, he uses his usual charm and people skills to get his ship in shape for business.

To read my review on every book in the series, check out my full review at adrielwiggins. When I finished this well written book the single perception that I had was that of a feel good story. Ishmael takes command of the Agamemnon , which has the reputation for being the worst ship in the fleet for many reasons. After getting accustomed to life aboard a solar clipper, Ishmael must learn a whole new set of skills, face his own fears and doubts, and try to balance love and loss in the depths of space. I will never say that you are wrong because you disagree with me, and I expect the same from those that comment here.

That seems an odd choice, but I guess Nathan Lowell wasn't interested in doing a university story, tied to one place. Ishmael tries to surround himself with people that are of high quality, but sometimes falls short of the mark. A later explanation, that none of the usual roles involved in programming and crewing ships puts someone in the right position to both see the need and be able to address it, seems weak to me in relation to such an important and often-performed function. The Author Nathan Lowell has a way of writing that makes time just fly by as you are absorbed into his imaginary world. They guide the ship back to the orbital and Ishmael soon learns that he is to be a captain and will be getting his own ship. All of the existing Ishmael books will be on Audible as soon as Podium processes By Darkness Forged.
